Any person who files for bankruptcy must complete an online credit counseling class before the Bankruptcy petition and schedules are filed with the bankruptcy court. A certificate from the agency will be filed with your bankruptcy paperwork.

The certificate is valid for 180 days. If the certificate is dated any later, you must retake the class.

The class will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes.

The second class you are required to take is the Debtor's Education class. This class must be completed within 45 days after your 341(A) Meeting of Creditors.

The Debtor's Ed class will take approximately 2 hours to complete. Typically, you can take both classes from the same agency.
